ROLE We are seeking a Public Affairs Specialist to support the United States Attorneyβs Office for the Western District of Louisiana (USAO LAW) in Lafayette, LA. In this role, you will provide technical writing and public affairs communications support for the Public Affairs Office (PAO).

RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the staff with the media and public affairs portfolios for the United States Attorneyβs Office (USAO)
Coordinate external communications and draft and edit press releases
Collect and analyze information requests from the news media and the public, and prepare response recommendations
Translate complex legal and technical information into everyday language for a wide variety of audiences
Prepare written communications/docs to inform and educate stakeholders on USAO programs, activities, and services
Support the coordination of community and other District programs and projects
Draft and edit pamphlets, handouts, and other technical writing materials
Analyze and recommend innovative communication solutions, including managing authorized social media accounts
Provide expertise on emerging trends and technology in the writing industry
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Be able to work with internet software programs for uploading information
Have a working knowledge and understanding of the media process and deadlines
Good judgment and discretion, ability to interact and participate effectively in a variety of settings
EDUCATION
Four-year undergraduate degree required
Β A degree in English, journalism, communications or a related field is preferred, but not required
