Summary:

Join our team in Quantico, Virginia, and contribute to the public affairs efforts for Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC). As a Junior Public Affairs Specialist, you will support the development and execution of public affairs campaigns aimed at enhancing MCSC's public image and building support among key stakeholders. This role offers a great opportunity to apply your developing understanding of public affairs principles, hone your communication and writing skills, and contribute creative ideas to storytelling and content development. Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Strategic Communication Planning: Assist in the development and implementation of strategic communication plans to support organizational objectives and enhance public perception.
  • Assisting with Audience Research: Help conduct audience research and analysis to identify key stakeholders and their communication needs.
  • Supporting Media Relations: Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with key media outlets and influencers.
  • Contributing to Content Creation and Management: Assist in developing high-quality written content, including press releases, news updates, speeches, presentations, and social media posts.
  • Website Content Support: Help manage and update website content, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Supporting Multimedia Content Development: Contribute to the development and production of engaging multimedia content, including videos and infographics.
  • Media Relations Support: Help build and maintain relationships with media representatives and assist in responding to media inquiries and coordinating media interviews.
  • Social Media Support: Assist in the development and implementation of social media strategies to increase brand awareness and engagement, and help create and schedule engaging content.
  • Event Planning and Execution Support: Assist in the planning and execution of public affairs events, such as press conferences and community outreach events, and help manage event logistics.
  • Supporting Branding and Messaging: Help develop and maintain consistent messaging across all communication channels and ensure materials align with brand identity.
  • Assisting with Research and Analysis: Help conduct research and analysis to inform public affairs strategies and campaigns, and monitor public opinion and emerging issues.
  • Learning Industry Best Practices: Stay informed about the latest trends in public affairs, communications, and digital media, and contribute to improving communication strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of professional experience or relevant internships in public affairs, communications, or journalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with social mediaΒ platforms and basic content management systems.
  • Some experience or understanding of graphic design and multimedia production is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of media relations and public relations best practices.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
