Position Overview:
Childrenβs Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a Vice President of Philanthropy to help cultivate and steward relationships with majors donors in securing significant philanthropic support for the organization, managing and mentoring a team of development and fundraising professionals, and executing key strategic fundraising plans. What Youβll Do:Β
Β
Strategic Development:Β
- Collaborate with the CPO to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organization's mission and goals. Β
- Identify and prioritize key donor segments, including major donors, corporate partners, and foundations. Β
- Conduct market research to identify potential funding sources and emerging philanthropic trends. Β
Team Leadership:Β
- Oversee a team of development professionals made up of CHFβs Directors of Development team.Β
- Provide mentorship and coaching to team members to enhance their fundraising skills and performance.?Β
- In conjunction with the CPO, set clear performance metrics and hold team members accountable for achieving fundraising goals.Β
Major Donor Cultivation and Solicitation:Β
- Identify and research potential major donors within the organization's donor database and beyond.Β
- Develop and execute personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies for major donors.Β
- Create compelling proposals and presentations to showcase the impact of philanthropic investments.Β
Relationship Building:Β
- Cultivate strong relationships with current major donors, understanding their philanthropic interests and motivations.Β
- Initiate and maintain regular communication with major donors through in-person meetings, phone calls, emails, and events.Β
- Ensure donors feel valued and engaged with the organization's work.Β
Donor Stewardship:Β
- Develop and implement stewardship plans to recognize and acknowledge major donors' contributions.Β
- Collaborate with program staff to provide updates on the use and impact of donors' gifts.Β
- Facilitate personalized interactions and experiences for major donors, including site visits and engagement opportunities.Β
Prospect Identification:Β
- Collaborate with research and development teams to identify new potential major donors.Β
- Utilize data analytics and wealth screening tools to assess donors' giving capacity.Β
Collaboration and Reporting:Β
- Collaborate with the development team to ensure alignment with overall fundraising goals.Β
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions in the organization's donor management system.Β
- Prepare regular reports on major donor engagement, solicitation progress, and fundraising outcomes.Β

Qualifications:
Education:
- Β Bachelor's degree in a related field (such as nonprofit management, fundraising, business, or communications) required. Β
- Β Master's degree in nonprofit management, philanthropy, or related field preferred
Experience:
- Β Proven experience in major gifts fundraising, donor relations, or related roles within the nonprofit sector. Β
- Β Familiarity with donor management systems and databases. Β
- Β Experience in crafting compelling fundraising proposals and presentations.Β
- Β Knowledge of local philanthropic landscape and networks.Β
Certifications:
- Certification in fundraising (CFRE) is a plus.Β

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Normal office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, etc. Extended PC viewing and keyboarding required. Extended periods of sedentary work required.
