Area Function

The Finance team is charged with financial administration, including the distribution of grant funds; endowment management; supporting dioceses in building financial and real estate capacity; and supporting governance bodies charged with financial and property oversight and strategy.

Job Summary

The Director of Grants Management oversees all granting processes for the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society (β€œDFMS”), working across program areas and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure an effective and efficient grantmaking process. The Director of Grants Management will also serve as DFMS staff liaison to the Grants Committee of Executive Council (its board of directors) and will serve as the project lead and systems administrator for the organization’s implementation of a new grants management IT system.Β 

Reporting Relationships

The Director of Grants Management reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The Director of Grants Management will supervise a Grants Administrator.

Duties & Essential Job FunctionsΒ 

  • Create grant-making and monitoring processes and operational standards in collaboration with program and finance staff to support strategic goals.
  • Oversee day-to-day grants operations including awards, applications, support documents, review, approval, payment processing, and reporting.
  • Manage implementation of a new grants management system using appropriate software, including development of plans and timelines, staff communication, testing and troubleshooting, documentation, training, and release cycles.
  • Maintain working knowledge of The Episcopal Church’s programs and priority funding areasΒ 
  • Monitor grants for legal, financial, and program compliance including but not limited to ensuring that grant requirements are correctly documented in the grant files and database.Β 
  • Monitor and document the grantmaking workflow processes, forms, templates, reports and data to assure full compliance with internal controls and legal requirements.
  • Generate reports and data analysis for program and finance teams and board.
  • Collaborate with program evaluation teams and processes as needed. Other Functions And Responsibilities
  • Ensure senior staff are aware and knowledgeable of grants management processes and technologyΒ 
  • Backfill Grants Administrator role when necessaryΒ 
  • Collaborate with program teams, governance leaders, and the Finance team
  • Perform other related projects or work as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of professional work experience, with some knowledge or background in nonprofits
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing granting and evaluation processes
  • Experience in program measurement and evaluationΒ 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Excel
  • Ability to work productively and collaboratively with volunteers and leadersΒ 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problemsΒ 
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and interpersonal)Β 
  • Ability to multitask and work independently and collaboratively to meet weekly, monthly, and quarterly deadlines
  • Sensitivity to different cultures and the willingness to listen and learn from them in advancing the mission priorities of the Episcopal ChurchΒ 
Preferred
  • Master's Degree in non-profit management or related field
  • Working knowledge of the Episcopal Church and/or the Anglican communion
  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Project management experience, particularly with large-scale projectsΒ 
  • Data management experience, familiarity with data systems and business processes
  • Experience with complex database systems, experience with MicroEdge GIFTS or comparable grants management softwareΒ
