The National Geographic Society headquarters, based in Washington, D.C., is undergoing a significant renovation project on its campus (called Base Camp), which will be completed in 2026. The public-facing portion of this renovation will be the new National Geographic Museum of Exploration. Components of the new museum will include a state-of-the-art pavilion entrance, auditorium, iconic photo gallery, exhibition space, immersive walk-through attraction, retail, food and beverage, education center, archives, tours, and exciting new event space. The capstone of the renovation is a one-of-a-kind nighttime experience in the courtyard.Your Impact
Responsibilities Include:
Campaign Coordination & Asset Support (40%)
Coordinate the development, review, and delivery of marketing materials across digital, print, environmental, and partner channels for National Geographic Live, Storytellers Collective, and Traveling Exhibitions
Maintain centralized campaign trackers and calendars to support visibility across multiple program timelines and deliverables
Organize and route creative assetsβincluding social graphics, email modules, signage, and print piecesβfor internal review and approvals
Ensure campaign copy and creative assets reflect current program priorities, updated scheduling, and brand alignment
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain timely and accurate distribution of event and program messaging across marketing channels
Event Marketing & Partner Communications (30%)
Serve as a liaison between marketing and external venue or program partners to support co-branded promotions, toolkit rollouts, and localized asset requests
Facilitate the distribution, documentation, and version control of promotional materials, collaborating with content and design teams to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with campaign timelines
Monitor partner marketing timelines, usage compliance, and creative placements to inform future campaigns and maintain brand integrity
Assist in coordinating logistics for media previews, promotional appearances, and venue activations tied to national and regional events
On-Site & Live Event Logistics (20%)
Support planning, coordination, and on-the-ground execution of live and traveling event activationsβincluding National Geographic Live performances, Storyteller engagements, and Traveling Exhibition installations
Prepare and deliver marketing collateral for distribution at live events (e.g., signage, handouts, press materials)
Capture on-site engagement, audience interactions, and marketing touchpoints through notes and visuals to inform campaign recaps, reporting, and future promotional strategy
Work with ticketing, guest experience, and operations teams to ensure seamless on-site brand representation
Administrative & Cross-Team Collaboration (10%)
Support administrative and operational functions including meeting preparation, action item tracking, invoice processing, and internal campaign documentation
Collaborate with internal marketing functions - including content, web, email, and social to support integrated campaign execution and maintain alignment across all touchpoints
Contribute to retrospectives and planning meetings with recommendations for improving workflows and optimizing future promotions
What Youβll Bring
Educational Background
Bachelorβs degree in marketing, communications, event management, public relations, or a related field preferred.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
2+ years of experience supporting marketing campaigns or event logistics, ideally within cultural, nonprofit, tourism, or live entertainment sectors.
Experience coordinating cross-functional campaigns or assisting in event marketing at an institution with multiple programs is strongly preferred.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines
Familiarity with campaign execution workflows, including creative routing, production timelines, and asset tracking
Experience supporting live events, previews, workshops, or on-site activations in a marketing or coordination capacity
Comfortable working in project management systems like Monday.com or similar platforms to track timelines and deliverables
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional email correspondence and clear status updates
Ability to work collaboratively across departments including creative, marketing, guest experience, and external partners
Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership over logistics, scheduling, and cross-team coordination
Adaptability and problem-solving skills, particularly when handling last-minute changes or operational pivots
Familiarity with digital marketing concepts such as social promotion, ticketing workflows, and asset versioning is a plus
Positive, team-oriented approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality work under deadline
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience supporting event logistics, marketing campaigns, or program coordination within a museum, cultural institution, or nonprofit setting
Familiarity with National Geographicβs brand voice, mission, or visual identityβor demonstrated ability to adapt to established brand systems
Exposure to event marketing workflows, including cross-channel promotions, localized partner toolkits, and in-venue audience engagement strategies
Experience working with creative teams and understanding of the production and review lifecycle for campaign assets
Knowledge of ticketing systems, guest communication touchpoints, or CRM workflows is a plus
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and collaboration tools such as Slack, SharePoint, or Monday.com
Ability to work some evenings or weekends to support event execution or on-site activations as needed
Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and professionalism when working with internal teams or external partners

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

Resident - Our Resident category recognizes that certain staff need to be physically present at Base Camp to do their work. Some Resident staff must be at Base Camp every day to do their jobs, while others may only need to be physically present onsite some of the time to meet looming deadlines or to get work done and may require a unique schedule. As such, this category has been revised to provide maximum flexibility depending on whatβs required for each individual role. The days Resident staff come into the office will be determined by their teams and workflow, and they should work with their supervisors to determine their specific schedule. And throughout the year, their schedule may be adjusted based on cyclical work cycles, deadlines, and/or ebbs and flows of work.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
