About OzHarvest:

OzHarvest is a leading food rescue organisation on a mission to β€˜Nourish our Country’ by stopping good food from going to waste and delivering it to charities that help feed people in need. Through our education programs and our advocacy work, we hope to inspire others to change behaviour and help reach the national target of halving food waste by 2030.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about making a significant impact through philanthropy? We are seeking a dedicated Philanthropy Manager to develop and deliver OzHarvest’s Major Gift Program and Gifts in Wills (GIW) Program.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Fundraising team and lead the execution of our major donor and bequest strategies. This is a full-time, fixed-term maternity leave cover role from February to November 2026. Reporting to the Development Lead, the role works closely with the Head of Impact and our Visionary in Residence (Ronni Kahn) to secure vital funding to support our mission.

This role is open to candidates Australia-wide, with flexible hybrid working arrangements and some in-office days and travel required, including occasional travel to OzHarvest’s Sydney HQ.

Specifically, you will:

  • Develop Strategic Plans: Create and implement strategic plans for both the Major Gift Program and GIW Program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Forecasting and Budgeting: Develop and execute forecasts and budgets for major gifts and bequests to support sustainable growth.
  • Drive Fundraising Goals: Lead efforts to secure $250k in NEW major donor funding within the first year.
  • Provide Expertise: Offer expertise in major donor and GIW fundraising techniques and best practices.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct comprehensive research, cultivate relationships, solicit gifts, and steward donors effectively.
  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with other fundraising colleagues to maximize potential through coordinated efforts.
  • Manage Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with major donors.

At OzHarvest, we operate as a close-knit team dedicated to achieving impactful outcomes. This role is the sole role within this specialist area of fundraising and requires a high level of autonomy, while working collaboratively across the organisation. There is an expectation that during major events, all team members come together and take on additional responsibilities to ensure success.

To be successful for this role, you will need:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar philanthropic and bequest giving role within the NFP/NGO sector in Australia
  • A valid Police Check (or ability to obtain one)
  • A valid Working with Children Check (or the ability to obtain one)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing, stewardship reporting and presenting to senior stakeholders
  • Proven experience developing and delivering gift plans and achieving fundraising targets
  • Strong relationship-building skills with high-net-worth individuals, trustees and senior stakeholders across diverse sectors
  • Excellent organisational, planning, forecasting and budgeting skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with experience using Salesforce or similar CRM systems
  • Sound understanding of Australian charity law, tax-effective giving and the local philanthropy landscape
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • A strong commitment and enthusiasm for the purpose of OzHarvest
  • Energetic, proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Innovative and opportunity-focused, with the ability to think strategically in a fast-paced environment
