The Storytelling team works to expand the organizationβs impact through journalism, photography, film/video, web content, mapping, asset management, and data visualization. As one of the largest funders to individual storytellers in this work, it also identifies key grantmaking and fellowship opportunities with creative talent. Much of the team's programmatic activity is focused on identifying and building capacity for the next generation of diverse storytellers.Your Impact
Creative Producing (30%)
Produce media that meets the highest National Geographic standards, bringing new creative ideas to every project.
In consultation with the Impact Story Lab senior team, develop and produce ambitious media projects in support of the NGS mission.
Lead projects through all phases of creative production including pre-production and planning, writing, field work, editing, and post.
Project Management (30%)
In collaboration with the Impact Story Lab senior team, manage all aspects of production including schedules, budgets, and hiring of external vendors.
Oversee coordination of production logistics, including for complex field expeditions.
Ensure all projects deliver on time and on budget, and that all deliverables, including original photography and video footage and legal documentation, are properly archived.
Staff Management (25%)
Supervise project teams of staff and freelance Producers, Associate Producers, Editors, and other creative personnel and guide them through the production process.
Ensure that direct reports are producing according to NGS Impact Story Lab processes, policies and standards.
Technical Production (15%)
Occasionally operate camera and other production gear.
Edit projects to completion using Adobe Premiere.
Create graphics, original music, and other assets as needed and able.
What Youβll Bring
Educational Background
Bachelorβs degree with coursework in media production as well subjects aligned with National Geographicβs focus areas.
Minimum Years and Types of Experience
10+ years of media production experience
5+ of producer level experience
3+ years of management experience
Knowledge and Skill Required
The successful candidate will have a record of ambitious, creative, innovative visual storytelling, as well as proven success communicating science, geography, and cultural topics through media campaigns.
The Sr. Producer will possess professional management abilities and be adept at media production for stakeholders outside of traditional media outlets.
Deep knowledge of shooting and editing are a must, as is proficiency in at least one production skill (writing, shooting, editing, graphics, etc.).
Knowledge of standard video production workflows and Adobe Creative Suite is required.
The Sr. Producer must be able to work well as a part of a team, as well as independently, must have the ability to prioritize tasks, and must possess a strong attention to detail.
Excellent written, verbal, communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills are required.
The successful candidate should have experience creating new video production workflows, and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint as well as the Google Office suite.

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
The salary range for this position is $114,000 - $120,000.

Job Designation
Hybrid - At the Society, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are Hybrid. Our Hybrid category requires that staff work at Base Camp two days each week: every Tuesday and Wednesday. Hybrid staff are also always welcome to come in additional days each week if preferred.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
