Job Description

The STEM Curriculum and Operations Manager position serves as part of the STEM Education Program within DRI’s Division of Earth and Ecosystem Sciences (DEES) and its primary responsibility will include overseeing the Green Box Program and regional workforce development initiatives. Green Boxes are self-contained STEM kits, including 3 – 4 weeks of curriculum and all the supplies needed for classrooms of 40 students to participate in hands-on activities. The Green Box program is anticipated to have over 300 kits by 2027. This position includes overseeing the development of these Green Boxes, managing the shipment and receipt of these kits, and managing the personnel who support this program, including curriculum writers, an office manager, hourly employees, or similar. This position will support Northern Nevada workforce development at all levels and serve as a representative of the STEM Education Program. The STEM Curriculum and Operations Manager will be responsible for assisting with the development of community partnerships, identifying opportunities for programmatic growth within the STEM education landscape, and pursuing grants, contracts, or philanthropic funding in collaboration with STEM Education Program Director and colleagues to support program growth and sustainability. This primarily in-person position is based at DRI’s Reno, NV Campus.

POSITION DUTIES (Include but are not limited to)

  • Oversee all aspects of the Green Box Program, including personnel, product development, financial, promotion, evaluation and logistics management and provide oversight and direction to ensure success.
  • Direct Green Box development, which includes meeting with community partners, research scientists, STEM Education Program team members, funders, or similar, to develop new content.
  • Supervise a team of 2 – 8 direct reports, including tasks such as hiring, training, scheduling, and providing support or corrective counseling.
  • Support the Green Box Program team's financial needs in collaboration with the STEM Education Program Director, including securing funding, managing deliverables, and ensuring financial expenditures of team align with funder expectations.
  • Oversee Green Box distribution in collaboration with program team, including managing shipping partners, website, materials, and funding.
  • Evaluate the Green Box program and develop metrics reports, graphics, and shareable data.
  • Maintain regular communications with educators, program partners, schools, administrators, and informal educational entities regrading program resources.
  • Manage facility logistics, including inventory management, facilities management, and similar tasks.
  • Secure philanthropic, grant, and/or contract funding to support development, shipment, and implementation of Green Box program in collaboration with the STEM Education Program team.
  • Represent the STEM Education Program at events, programs, trainings, conferences, or similar, as directed by the Director of the STEM Education Program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, communication, science, computer science, or related field from an accredited institution with 2 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience managing STEM education resources, including curriculum and educational supplies;
  • Knowledge of the K-12th grade learning environment
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite experience (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain responsibility for individual work
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem resolution skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (optional)

Greater consideration will be given to those who possess one or more of the following skills:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Supervisory experience
  • Grant writing experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal resources, external partners and educators

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may need to occasionally perform physical tasks, such as such as moving or lifting boxes and items regularly up to 70 lbs. Push or pull objects on wheels that weigh up to 70 lbs regularly. Traverse stairs, sometimes carrying materials.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check;

  • Events may take place during non-business hours and on weekends

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The minimum annual starting salary is $60,206 and is competitive and commensurate with education, experience, and aligns with similar public academic research institutions. DRI offers a benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance; including a 19.25% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and the choice of three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts. Additionally, there is no state income tax and no social security deduction.
