The Finance team is a valued thought partner at the forefront of decision making, providing timely and accurate financial information, deriving meaningful insights from data, and empowering the organization with innovative solutions which are agile and nimble to grow and adapt quickly to change.

This role will work closely with various shared service team functions including A/R, A/P, Cash Operations to ensure integration of shared service functions across the organization are met. Additional responsibilities include developing metrics, driving process improvements, and participating in projects. This role also involves partnering with internal teams to act as a trusted partner, contributing to strategic initiatives and key cross functional projects. This role plays a vital role in ensuring continuity, efficiency and support for effective cross-functional collaborations. The Shared Service Manager will report to the VP, Shared Services & Risk Management.

Responsibilities Include

  • Foster strong relationships within Finance and business partners to align on needs particularly related to our new revenue streams and public space initiatives, while identifying opportunities for technology-driven process improvements. Monitor operational metrics across cash operations, accounts receivable and accounts payable, ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policy and procedures (25%).

  • Monitor department’s email and ticketing system and liaison with internal and external customers to resolve inquiries while working with the team to ensure adequate coverage available and provide hands-on support to maintain continuity and efficiency (25%).

  • Help with support system upgrades and new releases by assisting with testing and communication rollouts for our team (25%).

  • Serve as a key partner to the VP of Shared Services and Risk Management supporting planning and executing of departmental projects. Support the department’s roadmap by prioritizing system enhancements and driving continuous improvements in efficiency and customer experience (25%).

What You’ll Bring

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business strongly preferred or relevant work experience.

Minimum Years and Type of Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of business experience in operational accounting responsibilities with 3+ years of management experience.

  • Experience and understanding A/R, A/P, Cash/Revenue functions is a must.

  • Knowledge of large integrated ERP systems preferred

Necessary Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong PC skills, including competence excel

  • Ability to identify problems, develop solutions and take action to resolve issues.

  • Detail-oriented, strong critical thinking skill, ability to perform in-depth research, account analysis and reconciliation.

  • Motivated and dependable, ability to work with limited direction and supervision.

  • Ability to prioritize workload, manage time efficiently and consistently meet required deadlines.

  • Strong people skills and customer service; strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply rules and procedures.

  • Act with integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Working knowledge of non-profit accounting is highly desired.

Salary Information

The National Geographic Society offers a competitive and holistic total rewards package. Our compensation structure and transparent pay philosophy are based on industry-specific market data for similar-sized nonprofit organizations.

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

The salary range for this position is $98,800 - $104,000

Job Designation

Hybrid - At the Society, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are Hybrid. Our Hybrid category requires that staff work at Base Camp two days each week: every Tuesday and Wednesday. Hybrid staff are also always welcome to come in additional days each week if preferred.
